How to Change the Lead Fee Earner (LFE) on a Matter Maintenance (MM) Request
Overview
Sometimes an MM (Matter Maintenance) Request needs its Lead Fee Earner (LFE) updated — for example, when the currently assigned LFE has left the firm or the Matter needs to be reassigned. This article explains how to change the LFE directly within the MM Request.
🔍 Why This Issue Occurs
A user may raise a ticket (e.g., the example referenced: Ticket 14908) when they cannot update the LFE themselves.
The MM Request requires a specific setting to be enabled before the LFE field becomes editable.
🛠️ How to Change the LFE on an MM Request
Follow these steps:
Step 1 — Open the MM Request
Locate and open the Matter Maintenance Request associated with the Matter where the LFE needs to be changed.
Step 2 — Enable the LFE Update Checkbox
In the MM Request, select the checkbox highlighted in the original instructions (the checkbox enables LFE modification)
This action unlocks the ability to edit the Lead Fee Earner field.
Step 3 — Update the Lead Fee Earner Field
- Scroll down to the Lead Fee Earner field.
- Deselect the current user assigned as LFE.
- Search for and add the new LFE.
Step 4 — Save and Submit
Once the new LFE is added, complete any other required fields and submit/advance the MM Request as per your firm’s workflow.

- This update must be made within the MM Request, not in the Matter itself.
